Passover begins at sundown on Saturday the 12th of April 2025, and ends at nightfall on Sunday the 20th of April 2025.

Passover is more than a historical event—it's a divine love story of deliverance, redemption, and the foreshadowing of the cross. When God led the Israelites out of Egypt, He gave them a way to be protected from the final plague: painting the blood of a spotless lamb over their doorposts.
This act of obedience was not only their escape from physical death, but it prophetically pointed to the sacrifice of Jesus, our true Passover Lamb, whose blood rescues us from sin and eternal death.
Passover reminds us that God hears us, God saves, and God leads us to freedom—even when the journey is long and hard.
What We Can Learn from Passover
1. God is Faithful to His Promises
God heard the cries of His people and kept His promise to deliver them. Even when the wait feels long, God never forgets His people. Just like the Israelites waited for deliverance, today many of us wait—for healing, for answers, for breakthrough. Passover reminds us that God's timing is perfect.
2. Deliverance Comes Through the Blood of the Lamb
The Israelites were instructed to paint the blood of a spotless lamb on their doorposts. That night, death “passed over” their homes. This directly foreshadowed Jesus, our perfect Lamb, whose blood brings eternal life. We no longer paint doorposts, but we cover our lives with the blood of Jesus through faith. His sacrifice protects us from eternal death and gives us spiritual freedom.
3. Freedom Requires Trust and Obedience
God told the Israelites exactly what to do—prepare, be ready, trust Him, and move when He says “go.” Their obedience led to their freedom. Today, God still calls us to trust and obey, even when His instructions seem unfamiliar or challenging. Obedience always leads to greater freedom. Obedience is faith in action.
How Passover Applies to Our Lives Today
Freedom from Bondage – Just as the Israelites were freed from Egypt, we too can be freed from the bondage of sin, fear, shame, and addiction through Jesus. This is the time to really lean into Jesus with all your pain, unforgiveness, anger, resentment and bitterness, for example, and ask Him to deliver you from it; to lead you out of Egypt and into the Promised Land. Egypt is a representation of the world, when we remain attached to all the things the world has done to us, we miss out on the incredible opportunity to step into the Promised Land God is calling us into.
God’s Protection – In uncertain times, we can take comfort knowing that Jesus is our covering, and in Him, we are safe and secure. When we live in fear for the safety of ourselves and our family, we are calling God a liar. His Word is full of promises of protection, provision, redemption, healing and freedom. Stand up and claim these promises. Declare that you and your family are safe under the blood of Jesus. Declare that God IS your provider and redeemer. Claim these Words of God as your own because YOU ARE already a child of God, therefore you are ALREADY under His covering. Psalm 91 is a powerful Psalm to read, memorize and declare often in relation to this.
Faith in Action – Passover wasn't passive. The people had to act in faith. Likewise, we are called to live out our faith boldly, intentionally, and obediently. When we spend time in the Word we can wield it like a sword cutting through and destroying the lies of the enemy that comes to steal, kill and destroy our faith. Our faith is the shield we hold up in front of us to stop the fiery arrows being shot at us by the enemy. (Ephesians 6:16). The sword of the Spirit (God's Word) is part of the armour God gives us and tells us to put on, in Ephesians 6:17. Notice, out of everything He gives us to protect us there is only ONE weapon, the Sword of the Spirit. USE IT!
How to Apply these lesson from passover
Celebrate Freedom Daily – Don’t wait for a holiday to remember what God has done. Thank Him daily for the freedom you have in Christ.
Walk in Obedience – When God nudges your heart—whether it’s forgiving someone, starting a new path, or letting go of fear—trust Him and move forward.
Cover Your Home in Prayer – Just as the blood covered the doorposts, cover your household in prayer, inviting God’s presence and protection over your family.
Questions to reflect on this passover
What does “freedom in Christ” look like in your life today?
Can you think of a time God "passed over" you—protected or rescued you?
Are there any areas of your life where God is calling you to take a step of obedience?
passover Journaling Prompts
This Passover spend time journaling about this:
Write about an “Egypt” (worldly stuff) God has delivered you from (e.g., addiction, fear, insecurity).
Journal a prayer of thanksgiving for how Jesus covers you with His grace and blood.
Reflect on a time you stepped out in faith and saw God move.
An easy song for you to remember and sing during this Passover time and beyond!
I’m covered by the blood, I'm free, I'm found
No fear, no shame can hold me down
My Savior leads, my chains are gone
I’m walking out—He makes me strong!
Prayer for passover
Father God, thank You for the gift of freedom through Your Son, Jesus. Just as You delivered the Israelites from Egypt, You are still in the business of rescue and redemption. Help us walk in obedience, covered by the blood of the Lamb, and confident in Your promises. Thank You for passing over us, not because of anything we’ve done, but because of Your mercy. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Passover is not just a Jewish tradition—it is a timeless message of hope, freedom, and victory for every believer. Through Jesus, the ultimate Passover Lamb, death has passed over us, and life—abundant, eternal life—has come. Let this season remind you that God sees you, hears your cry, and is working on your behalf. Your story, like Israel’s, is one of redemption, power, and divine love. You are free, you are covered, and you are His.
God bless you and your family,
Michelle
